EIN PROSIT!
(cheers)
Hi, I’m Harold Miller, AKA Musiker Miller, and I enjoy entertaining with a wide selection of famous old German folk music. I was recently joined by several members of my family who enjoy singing: Steven Thies, my son-in-law; Richard Miller, my son; and Astrid Miller, my daughter-in law. Our group is now known as Musiker Miller and Company.
For this entertainment, I like to briefly discuss the history and background of some of the music while adding a touch of humor. The wide range of music encompasses everything from happy songs to melancholy songs and from love songs to war songs etc.
Many types of audiences have, in the past five years, enjoyed my solo performances as Musiker Miller in which I performed a large variety of old-time keyboard and button accordian music in the tri city area.
Most of the old German folk songs we perform I learned from my parents and grandparents who immigrated from Germany in the early twentieth century. Several of the English lyrics to the German music I composed myself.
Back in the days before TV and computers when friends and families got together they actually looked at each other and spoke directly to each other more instead of watching the boob tube and banging on the PC keyboard. For entertainment they would sing and dance and make their own music with fiddles, button accordians and even some guitars. My button accordian playing I learned from my father who played at a lot of weekend German parties and my keyboard and piano playing was largely self-taught. The members of my vocal group; Astrid, who grew up in Germany, Richard and Steve all have been primarily self-taught.
